Reviewing and approving journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the accounting team including complex areas such as investments; and investigating discrepancies and communicating issues as they arise in a timely manner
Partnering with Revenue Operations and working cross-functionally with departments to ensure Revenue, including Pledges, are recorded in compliance with GAAP
Assisting in the timely management of the month-end consolidated financial close process by keeping team priorities on track and assisting staff
Continually developing, expanding, and improving month-end close and financial reporting procedures and timelines
Reviewing, approving, and or processing financial transactions as needed
Researching and supporting the VP, Controller in the implementation of new accounting standards
Assisting in the creation of new processes and implementation of new systems and simplifying existing processes
Supporting the management of the year-end consolidated financial statement audit, tax return preparation, and regulatory filings
Ensuring the timely annual filing of state fundraising registrations
Supporting the management of special projects, general ledger implementation, internal controls, and ad hoc analyses
Supervising and mentoring accounting and senior accounting associates
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
7+ years of professional experience in accounting
2+ years of successfully managing a high performing and detail-oriented team and proven ability to manage and develop the careers of direct reports
Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of an organization and manage relationships with external parties
Superior problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
Proven agility required to work thoughtfully in a fast-paced start-up environment
Public Accounting experience (added plus)
Current CPA designation or equivalent (added plus)
Experience working with expense management platforms like Concur and ERPs like NetSuite (added plus)
Understanding of non-profit operations (added plus)
