About the role
- Responsible for researching, developing, and implementing strategic communication strategies that support ALSAC’s fundraising goals.
- Manages day-to-day activities related to creating content strategies for programs that drive fundraising efforts across multiple channels.
- Collaborates with internal and external teams to develop and execute content strategies that achieve program objectives and support audience-centric goals, including acquisition, reactivation, retention, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Leverages extensive fundraising knowledge and sound judgment to develop content strategies that produce clear, persuasive writing for a variety of materials.
- Analyzes and interprets historical and current data to guide strategic content direction, ensuring short- and long-term objectives are met.
- Monitors market trends, conducts competitive analyses, and researches sister charity fundraising efforts.
- Partners with internal teams to understand strategic priorities and translate St. Jude breakthroughs into compelling fundraising strategies.
- Communicates content plans effectively, provides updates, and solicits feedback to ensure alignment.
- Collaborates with writers, designers, production coordinators, and project managers to execute strategies.
- Simplifies complex planned giving concepts and scientific/medical information into persuasive, accessible language.
- Models best practices for writing and messaging in planned giving.
- Ensures all content adheres to style guides, brand standards, and messaging guidelines.
- Trains, mentors, and supports other writers in creating strategic, revenue-generating content that meets fundraising objectives.
- Drives continuous improvement through process evaluations, recommendations, and testing new strategies.
- Recommends testing, retesting, or rollouts based on results.
- Reviews, proofreads, and revises content during development and routing phases for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to strategy.
- Assists in onboarding and training new team members, providing guidance on strategy, processes, analysis, and communication.
- Oversees execution of assigned plans to ensure alignment with business objectives and strengthen St. Jude’s fundraising impact.
- Represents ALSAC-St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital professionally and positively in all interactions.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of proofreading, editing, creative writing, and communications/marketing.
- Excellent command of English spelling, grammar, and usage.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to interpret scientific/medical information and translate it for a lay audience.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field (English, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising) or at least 6 years of relevant experience in creative writing, marketing, journalism, direct response, or fundraising.
