About the role

  • Define the AI safety research roadmap for Mila’s Applied Projects.
  • Conduct high-impact applied machine learning research in collaboration with Mila professors, industry partners, and academic institutions.
  • Build and maintain a trusted network with other academic researchers in AI safety.
  • Develop and implement state-of-the-art machine learning models and algorithms.
  • Provide consulting services to organizations on applying machine learning to solve their specific problems.
  • Mentor and collaborate with junior researchers.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of Mila’s AI safety research initiatives by actively participating in workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Facilitate technology transfer by bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical applications.
  • Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.

Requirements

  • PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, plus more than 8 years of relevant experience combining machine learning and large language models.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting applied research in AI safety, or in cybersecurity using machine learning.
  • Ability to work independently in applying problem-solving skills and a proven capacity to lead a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and experience with machine learning libraries like PyTorch.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A track record of collaboration with industry partners is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with cloud compute resources.
  • Experience training generative AI models.
  • Fluency in French and English.
