About the role

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fund development plans that include goal setting, donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and engagement strategies
  • Develop fundraising policies and procedures that align with CBS culture and comply with IRS regulations
  • Build tailored strategies for each donor segment
  • Continuously update the development plan based on organizational priorities, best practices, and data-driven analysis
  • Foster a culture of generosity amongst staff, field leaders, and participants
  • Partner with the Director of Finance and Accounting to support revenue budgeting and forecasting
  • Partner with various CBS leaders and executives to build donor relations
  • Manage departmental income projections, process metrics, and outcomes reporting
  • Work closely with appropriate CBS personnel and outsourced services on donor analytics and research
  • Steward and cultivate a major donor portfolio of 50+ individuals, ensuring renewal and growth of giving
  • Increase participation in recurring-giving programs through the strategic use of donor data
  • Ensure the day-to-day stewardship and retention of new and returning donors
  • Oversee the development and execution of annual donor solicitation and stewardship plans to maximize donor connection and community through acquiring new donors and retaining current donors
  • Oversee and develop a strong major gifts and estate planning program, using research and analytics
  • Partner with the CEO to cultivate and solicit principal gifts
  • Prepare briefing materials and strategy for CEO donor meetings
  • Provide materials, training, and support to encourage fundraising among CBS class participants
  • Grow and manage donor pipeline while stewarding existing relationships across all revenue streams
  • Partner with Communication & Marketing in the creation of communications that articulate the value of partnering with CBS
  • Research, vet, and prioritize foundation prospects to expand institutional funding opportunities
  • Coordinate timely, high-quality grant applications
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive development calendar to manage application deadlines, reporting cycles, and long-term foundation stewardship
  • Build and sustain relationships with program officers and foundation partners to strengthen long-term support
  • Oversee the tracking of all recurring and one-time gifts across online and offline channels
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of donor and prospect records
  • Lead periodic reviews of acknowledgment letters and tax receipting processes
  • Design and maintain a regular KPI report
  • Actively assist in annual budget planning for the development
  • Ensure donor communications reflect CBS’s cultural values and communication standards
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Marketing to craft biblically grounded generosity messaging for donors and in alignment with the annual strategic communications plan
  • Contribute to weekly meetings with operations leaders as a key voice representing donor and generosity perspectives
  • Participate in the Unified Leadership Team, meeting quarterly with all director-level leaders
  • Present donor data, revenue trends, and strategic insights during monthly revenue meetings
  • Supervise and develop team members, including paid staff and volunteers, through goal setting, coaching, performance management, and regular feedback
  • Partner with the COO to identify additional Development staff and volunteers and assess areas requiring outsourced support or services

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced education or relevant certifications (e.g., CFRE) preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive fundraising experience, including demonstrated leadership responsibility
  • Experience in faith-based or nonprofit ministry contexts strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated fluency in donor CRM systems and data-driven fundraising strategies; experience with NetSuite or comparable enterprise CRM platforms preferred
  • Proficiency in digital fundraising tools, analytics platforms, and donor engagement technologies
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar platforms) for research, donor insights, communication drafting, and operational efficiency, exercised with discernment and alignment with organizational values
  • Strong proficiency with core business productivity platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365 or equivalent)
