About the role

  • Responsibilities
  • Support the research of the scholars of the foreign and defense team
  • Read and summarize scholarly work and news articles
  • Summarize public speeches and other presentations
  • Conduct historical research
  • Help run the department’s social media accounts
  • Support the administrative and organizational needs of the foreign and defense team.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in political science, international relations, or history is preferred, but extraordinary candidates with lesser qualifications will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants should have a passionate interest in US foreign policy, ideally with the desire to become foreign-policy scholars themselves.
  • An understanding of and interest in Cato’s mission.
  • Strong reading, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to reduce large and complex texts to dense summaries.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work on multiple tasks both independently and as part of a team on a time-sensitive basis.
  • Strong verbal communication and the ability to present work publicly in front of groups.
  • A commitment to accuracy and precision.
