About the role

  • We're looking for a Senior Brand Copywriter for a 10-month maternity cover who can partner with copywriters, designers, producers in the brand team to work on a number of Canva projects.
  • The role will focus on positioning and messaging, rolling out multi-channel executions, and ensuring all messaging is impactful across all business areas and touchpoints.
  • You’ll write, review, and edit copy across multiple channels, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary creative team to ensure all messaging aligns with Canva’s tone, voice, and values.
  • This role requires a balance of creative ideation and execution.
  • You'll be supported by a Creative Copy Lead, ensuring your writing is on brand and aligns with our broader brand thinking and direction.
  • Write, review, and edit flawless copy at a pace across a variety of marketing placements and Canva products.
  • Take part in early concept ideation and brainstorming, developing creative IDs and strong copy ideas from the earliest stages.
  • Apply strategic thinking to briefs, using insight and context to shape clear, effective copy decisions.
  • Create and evolve messaging frameworks, toolkits, and systems that keep brand voice consistent across all of Canva.
  • Partner closely with design, motion, and product teams to shape ideas from concept to execution.
  • Develop copy that bridges product and creative, embedding brand thinking directly into the product experience.
  • Maintain high editorial standards by applying brand voice guidelines, style rules, and quality controls across all work.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years experience as a copywriter, either agency or client-side (in-house).
  • Strong understanding of brand marketing channels and best practices.
  • Strong familiarity with a spectrum of copy styles, from long-form content, like landing pages and editorial, to placements that require a succinct approach like social posts.
  • A passion for innovative, blue sky ideation and a strong desire to make impactful work that will help to build an iconic global brand.
  • A great team player. Able to work in a dynamic multi-skilled agile environment.
  • A master storyteller, able to sell the brand and its products to myriad demographics and personas with a consistent tone of voice.
  • Attention to detail, style, and tone. You write with clarity and empathy and can write in a range of genres, styles, and tones.
  • A good grasp of English, sentence construction, and grammatical structure.
  • And because less than 50% of our community is English speaking, you consider the needs of internationalisation in every word.
  • You bring others along for the ride. Set expectations with stakeholders, communicate openly across multiple teams, and collaborate with multiple creatives to get the job done.
  • You’re not precious. Open to giving and receiving feedback and can clearly articulate how copy can be improved.
