Financial Crime

• Conducting comprehensive KYB checks on new and existing customers, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines and internal policies
• Reviewing customer documentation, including merchant applications, financial statements, legal agreements, and beneficial ownership information
• Evaluating the adequacy and accuracy of customer-provided information and perform risk assessments based on established criteria
• Investigating and resolve any red flags, inconsistencies, or suspicious activities identified during the customer due diligence process
• Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, such as Compliance, Legal and Risk, as required, to obtain additional information or clarify discrepancies
• Staying updated on evolving local and payment industry regulations, card scheme rules, and best practices to ensure compliance with applicable standards
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of customer due diligence activities, including audit trails, risk assessments, and supporting documentation
• Assisting in the development and enhancement of KYB policies, procedures, and tools specific to the payments industry to improve efficiency and effectiveness
• Providing training and support to other team members on KYB processes, industry requirements, and emerging trends
• Reporting any potential cases of money laundering, fraud, or suspicious activities to the Financial Crime Risk Team and relevant authorities

Senior Financial Crime Investigator – Merchant Acquiring

Fraud Investigator

• Gathering evidence from flagged transaction data and from customers’ claim submissions and probing further where needed
• Using Monzo’s values to investigate the nature of suspicious transactions with empathy and attention to detail.
• Use of Monzo’s values to reassure and support customers through the process of identifying active fraud.
• Safeguarding compromised accounts and taking appropriate remedial action to ensure customers can resume safe usage of their Monzo account.
• Providing advice and support to victims of fraud on how they can protect themselves in the future.
• Communication to and from other banks about potential fraudsters in ours/their customer base
• Communication to and from CIFAS about potential fraudsters in Monzo’s customer base
• Communication with law enforcement about crime we discover as part of our investigations
• Submitting accounts for closure where first party concerns are held following investigation (in line with relevant guidance)

Machine Learning Engineer

• This role sits as part of a multidisciplinary squad, collaborating with other Machine Learning Scientists, Data Scientists, Backend Engineers, Operations specialists, Product managers, and Risk managers.
• You'll play a key role by leveraging your deep experience of developing and deploying advanced Machine Learning models as to automatically and accurately detect suspicious user behaviours while minimising impact to genuine customers and operational costs.
• Adapt quickly and appropriately to changing fraud and financial crime trends, ensuring our detection systems remain performant through time.
• Design machine learning solutions that scale globally.
• The technical approaches you take to solve these problems will be very much in your hands and we’ll strongly encourage and support experimentation and innovation.

Senior Machine Learning Scientist

• Taking ownership of complex FinCrime Business Banking tasks
• Writing, reviewing, and submitting high-quality Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
• Maintaining a regular schedule on core investigative tasks
• Actively coaching Investigators on complex financial crime typologies
• Working closely with Operations Analysts to share emerging trends.
