About the role
- Metals ICP-MS Instrument Analyst
- Advanced laboratory position covering a variety of procedures that require knowledge of chemistry and laboratory procedures.
- Responsible for the daily operation and instrumental analysis using the Agilent Collision Cell ICP-MS, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, workload management, and sample preparation.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures and ensure strict adherence to procedures.
- Prepare samples and operate complex analytical instrumentation (Agilent ICP-MS) including routine maintenance, troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Provide advice, guidance and training to Lab Tech and Analyst I staff on the methods used within the department.
- Ensure analytical records and all required logs are properly completed, labelled and filed.
- Meet quality and turnaround time specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
- Provide supervisor with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays.
- Apply, adapt and modify technical procedures and methods of analysis upon approval of the Section Supervisor or Department Manager.
- Compile records and perform initial data review and interpretation.
- Address any anomalies by agreeing on a course of corrective action with the Section Supervisor or Department Manager.
- Maintain control charts as per QA manual requirements, monitor for failure to meet tolerances and institute remedial action immediately.
- Perform simple analysis, including operation of balances and meters.
- Maintain up to date maintenance records for instrumentation.
- General housekeeping of laboratory and workstations.
- Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
- Prepare samples, sub-samples and reagents.
- Ensure samples, extracts and standard solutions are properly labelled and stored in the appropriate location.
- All other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- B.Sc., technical diploma or equivalent experience
- 1 to 2 years of experience in Trace Metals Analysis preferred
- Basic chemistry and laboratory practices
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures and laboratory techniques that can be applied to prepare samples in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage time and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong computer skills (word & excel)
