About the role
- Reviews residential, commercial, and public works project plans, reports and other development and design related documents for compliance with Design Standards and all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines.
- Gain knowledge and understanding of structural and non-structural plan reviews of commercial, industrial and residential buildings for compliance with applicable building codes and standards.
- May include structural plan reviews of wood framed commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with applicable codes and standards and engineering principals.
- Participate on client calls to assess and resolve questions and/or complaints received from clients, applicants, public, designers and contractors as it relates to plan review.
- May be assigned to provide basic plan reviews directly for jurisdictions, where the scope of work may include calculating construction valuations and permit fees, processing building permits, and reviewing contractors licensing, business licensing and owner/builder verifications (i.e. basic permit technician skills may be required).
- Prepare written plan review correspondence and update information into various computer software programs.
- Explain and answer client questions regarding generated plan review letters. May interact directly with clients and their staff.
Requirements
- Holds or is working towards attaining a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Architectural, Civil, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Registration as an Engineer in Training or holds a Professional Engineer Licenses in the engineering disciplines of Civil/Structural (i.e. Licensed Professional Engineer).
- ICC certification as a Plans Examiner.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Knowledge of and prior experience with current International Building Codes.
- Working knowledge of office computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a team player and able to work well with clients and co-workers.
- Must possess problem solving skills.
- Bilingual a plus.

- The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, document and database software (MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop).
- Knowledge and use of digital cameras and photo media programs required.
