About the role
- Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel)
- Carry out General and Principal Inspections for trunk road bridges (comprising steel, concrete and masonry), retaining walls and high mast lights
- Perform inspection on projects requiring expertise and knowledge in multiple areas of construction inspection
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications
- To perform assessments and provide advice for service delivery within agreed parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards
- To give technical guidance to other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application
- Provides clear documentation of findings and results
- Follow up on resolution of non-compliance reports (NCR’s)
- May assist Project Manager in development of scope for testing and inspection services
- Maintains equipment operation and calibration
- Performs advanced fieldwork and assists with project management
- Always assess the risks and work in a safe manner, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises your safety or health
Requirements
- Civil construction or structure background, university degree or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience working as a Field Inspector
- Knowledge in one of the fields (construction, mechanical, structural/civil, electrical and architectural) is preferred
- Knowledge of materials testing
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications
- Good command in office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Fluent in reading, writing & speaking English is preferred
- Can work independently under pressure
- Can arrange to travel for inspection jobs
- Strong leadership skills – able to lead and manage a team
