About the role
- Perform scheduled assignments between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday –Friday
- Receive, review, assess fees, and process construction permits.
- Receive inspection requests and schedule daily inspections for inspectors.
- Plan and research zoning work for multiple clients.
- Review subdivision, commercial and industrial development plans to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, ordinances and policies, explaining and interpreting ordinances as necessary; renders plan approval or denial.
- Analyze and respond to zoning questions from clients, citizens and developers.
- Conduct meetings with citizens, developers, and other interested groups; provide code information and interpretation.
- Perform related administrative tasks in support of operations; prepares staff reports to support issues including variance requests, rezoning and annexation applications, conditional use applications and land use amendment applications.
- Attend Board of Commissioners meetings, City Council and Planning Commission meetings after hours as necessary for multiple clients.
- Assist in conducting site visits to analyze subdivision, commercial and industrial projects prior to plat approvals.
- Readily communicate with client staff, citizens and developers as necessary.
- Readily communicate with team members.
- Maintain detailed records and reports of all planning and zoning cases.
- Be available to assist client staff with additional service as related to our purpose.
- Be available to assist team members when called upon.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in planning, geography or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in rural and/or urban planning at the local level.
- GIS experience is a plus.
- AICP (preferred)
- ICC Certified Zoning Inspector
- GSWCC Level II Plans Examiner
- Strong knowledge of planning and zoning related municipal codes, building inspection methods and techniques and construction materials, methods and techniques.
- Strong knowledge of erosion and sedimentation control laws and Best Management Practices.
- Ability to operate work related technology (laptop, tablet, iPhone).
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and similar programs.
- Must be self-disciplined, able to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to work well with people and perform as a member of a team.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
