Permit application processing by receiving, reviewing, verifying completeness and accuracy of building permit applications and associated documents
Ensuring code compliance by ensuring that proposed construction projects comply with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and other relevant standards
Provide guidance and general interpretation of building codes to applicants and stakeholders
Perform Building Inspection coordination and scheduling
Provide customer service on-site, virtually by computer, phone and email regarding permit requirements, application status, and code inquiries
Represent the department and interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders
Provide information and guidance on the permit process and necessary documentation
Issue permits and accurately calculate and collect permit fees
Record keeping while maintaining accurate records of permits issued, inspections conducted, and fees collected
Generate reports and correspondence related to permit applications and inspections
Provide technical support and guidance to internal staff and external stakeholders on matters related to building codes, permit requirements, and inspection procedures
Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and officials involved in the permitting and inspection process
Attend meetings and training sessions to stay updated on changes in building codes and regulations
Perform assigned duties within the supported agency’s guidance, culture, and approach
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying
Graduation from high school and previous experience or coursework in building inspection, construction technology, or a related field
ICC Permit Technician certification or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe
Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and construction practices
Experience in customer service and administrative support
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail and ability to review technical documents accurately
Proficiency in using computer software applications for permit tracking, data entry, record keeping, and correspondence
