About the role
- Design, evolve, and maintain system tokens, components, and patterns that are accessible, resilient, and scalable across platforms, championing inclusive design practices aligned with our value of Respect.
- Audit existing product experiences to identify design debt, inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve system coverage, then take ownership of prioritising and delivering meaningful improvements.
- Partner closely with engineering to ensure strong parity between Figma libraries and production code, collaborating through shared design-to-code workflows and AI-supported documentation practices.
- Create clear, discoverable system documentation — including usage guidelines, do/don’ts, component states, motion, and error handling — that empowers teams to ship confidently and efficiently.
- Advocate for safe-by-design and accessible patterns that reflect Bumble’s commitment to kindness, safety, and equitable experiences for diverse members.
- Support and onboard product teams adopting the design system, facilitating alignment sessions, and responding thoughtfully to system support requests.
- Contribute to the design system’s product strategy by helping define its vision, roadmap, and success metrics, including adoption, usability improvements, and reduced time-to-ship.
- Use qualitative and quantitative feedback from designers, engineers, and members — alongside AI-assisted insights — to iterate, measure impact, and continuously improve the system with an agile mindset.
Requirements
- Typically requires 7–9 years of experience using and maintaining or contributing to product design systems (frontend development is highly valued, though not a requirement or responsibility).
- You’re comfortable using AI-powered tools to support design exploration, documentation, and system maintenance, and you’re curious about how AI can responsibly improve design system workflows over time.
- You’re highly fluent in Figma, including components, variants, variable collections, libraries, and documentation workflows, and comfortable managing complex token systems (Tokens Studio experience is a plus).
- You communicate clearly and collaboratively with designers and engineers, explaining trade-offs and rationale in a way that builds trust, alignment, and shared ownership.
- You take ownership of your work end-to-end, collaborate with purpose across functions, and see ideas through from insight to impact, adapting plans with an agile mindset.
- You bring deep empathy for diverse users and consistently design with inclusion, accessibility, and safety at the forefront, reflecting Bumble’s values of Respect and Courage.
- You have strong experience designing and scaling component libraries, tokens, and patterns across multiple products or teams, balancing visual craft with usability and performance.
