About the role

  • Provide advanced benefits counseling services as a case manager to members and their dependents
  • Assist in understanding disability, health, condolence, pension, and other retirement benefits
  • Handle complex/escalated cases assigned to the CARE team
  • Support escalations and contribute to staff training
  • Uphold the CARE values of Collaboration, Action, Reliability, and Empathy
  • Interpret pension, disability, condolence, and Fund-Paid health rules
  • Review and assist with processing all pension, disability, and condolence applications
  • Conduct counseling appointments, both in-person and by phone
  • Perform outreach to inform members about benefits and address escalated cases
  • Review member records and analyze personnel data
  • Explain various benefit calculations and provide support in researching member appeals
  • Review members’ eligibility for ancillary and FPH benefits
  • Prepare and coordinate member communications
  • Manage a complex caseload from intake through resolution
  • Respond to inbound CARE calls
  • Provide backup coverage for CARE staff as needed
  • Participate in retirement planning seminars

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience processing pension claims/calculations or retirement counseling experience required
  • Knowledge of aspects of the administration of the 32BJ Pension Fund preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service via phone, email, virtually and in-person
  • Strong public speaking skills required
  • Must meet performance, accuracy, attendance, and punctuality standards
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Detailed knowledge of 32BJ benefits through participant case handling
  • Ability to manipulate and use multiple software programs including Excel, Microsoft Word, and Windows applications.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Flexibility with work schedule.
