About the role
- Design, deploy, and operate highly available, scalable, and secure Kubernetes clusters and supporting infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain a consumable platform of open-source, cloud-native applications and tooling for mission software teams.
- Build and enhance automation frameworks to streamline platform deployment, upgrades, and day-to-day operations.
- Collaborate with development teams to architect and support CI/CD pipelines and workflows for containerized applications.
- Implement and enforce Kubernetes security best practices, including RBAC, network policies, secret management, and security hardening.
- Support complex Kubernetes use cases, including edge deployments and environments with intermittent connectivity.
- Perform capacity planning, resource optimization, and performance tuning to ensure efficient platform utilization.
- Partner with security teams to identify, remediate, and prevent vulnerabilities through audits and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate emerging Kubernetes features, tools, and technologies, recommending enhancements to improve platform reliability and usability.
- Document platform architectures, configurations, and operational procedures to support knowledge sharing and long-term sustainability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker, including deploying, managing, and scaling containerized workloads.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture and core components such as pods, services, deployments, replica sets, and namespaces.
- Proficiency with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform).
- Strong Linux/Unix systems administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience deploying and operating applications on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security concepts as they apply to Kubernetes environments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and workflows (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and version control systems such as Git.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting in Kubernetes environments (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Experience operating Kubernetes clusters in production or multi-tenant environments is a plus.
