About the role
- Breakwater Accounting & Advisory provides outsourced bookkeeping and accounting services for businesses and nonprofit organizations across the US.
- Consult with clients to recommend, implement, configure, and support financial and workflow software (RAMP, Gusto, Dext, Bill.com, Divvy/Spend & Expense, Uncat).
- Drive payroll software setup including earning codes, PTO policies, and employee data configuration.
- Map software integrations to clients' charts of accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Design workflows and document processes using flowchart tools (draw.io) and create standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Support internal adoption of workflow improvements across a multi-client environment with competing priorities.
- Serve as a point of contact for clients during and after implementations, providing guidance and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in bookkeeping, payroll administration, and/or financial software implementation
- Familiarity with payroll concepts (earning codes, PTO policies, compliance basics)
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and chart of accounts structure
- Experience with the following: Gusto, Uncat, BILL and/or RAMP, BILL Spend & Expense (formerly Divvy) and/or Dext, or similar financial tools
- Proven ability to document and improve processes through SOPs and workflow mapping
- Prior involvement in software selection and implementation projects
- Knowledge of cross-platform integrations (QuickBooks Online, Xero, etc.)
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client projects at once
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with experience working directly with clients
- Experience in an outsourced accounting or client-service environment strongly preferred
- Tech-forward and process-oriented; organized, adaptable, client-focused, independent but collaborative
