About the role
- Work directly with customer engineering teams to identify thermal requirements for enterprise and hyperscale data center environments, including rack-level power density and cooling architecture
- Apply knowledge of thermal management, materials, and manufacturing processes to develop engineered solutions tailored to customer applications
- Serve as the technical liaison between customers and Boyd Engineering to support solution design, development, and validation
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and system requirements to ensure solution feasibility and alignment
- Support Account Managers and Business Development by providing engineering-driven technical expertise throughout the sales cycle
- Participate in customer meetings to define solution scope, clarify requirements, and communicate Boyd’s technical value proposition
- Display and demonstrate Boyd products and solutions using prototypes, samples, and technical data, emphasizing performance and manufacturability advantages
- Assist in developing strategies for increased customer penetration by identifying additional technical opportunities across customer divisions
- In conjunction with the Sales Operations and Estimating teams, perform technical reviews for quotation development, including drawings, specifications, materials, volumes, and manufacturing considerations
- Support preparation of formal quotation packages with pricing recommendations that balance technical requirements, revenue, and gross margin objectives
- Monitor technical progress of projects from concept through implementation to ensure customer milestones and production schedules are met
- Support commercial discussions by providing technical input related to product capabilities, manufacturing constraints, and application requirements
- Support commercial negotiations by providing technical and financial rationale (spec trade-offs, manufacturing constraints, risk mitigation, qualification scope).
- Engage with customers on topics related to solution performance, design changes, and technical risk mitigation
- Maintain accurate documentation of customer opportunities, technical requirements, and solution status within Salesforce CRM
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or higher) in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline strongly preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in technical sales, sales engineering, applications engineering, or engineering-driven customer-facing roles
- Strong ability to apply engineering and technical analysis to customer applications and system requirements
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to negotiate a quantified value proposition (performance, cost, manufacturability, TCO) and support win-win commercial negotiations in partnership with Sales/AM
- Ability to understand customer business drivers, margin impact, and competitive positioning; uses data to make sound recommendations (pricing rationale, trade-offs, roadmap)
- Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineering and business stakeholders
- Willingness and ability to travel, including potential international travel, to support customer engagements
- Self-starter with strong organizational, prioritization, and project management skills
