About the role
- Provide the technical guidance and perform critical System Safety or Software Safety Engineering work
- Plan, coordinate, and perform detailed system and subsystem hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, and software safety analysis to mitigate potential product safety hazards
- Work extensively with design, development, and test personnel to impart safety requirements early in the design process
- Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions
- Perform various analyses and integration activities to optimize total system of systems architecture for Software Safety
- Identify, analyze, and assess regulatory and/or contractual compliance of aerospace systems against MIL-STD-882E, JSSEH, DO-178, DO-254 to provide hazard mitigation evidence
- Analyze software to identify potential failure conditions or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns
- Identify safety issue systemic root causes and recommend corrective actions using industry best practices
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements and verify through analyses, audits, and reviews
- Demonstrate safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulators
- Resolve multi-functional technical issues
- Work onsite at the Hazelwood, MO or Berkeley, MO sites; obtain program access and required security clearance as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
- Associate: 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Mid-Level: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in System Safety or Software Safety
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, JSSEH, DO-178, DO-254 (development and design assurance standards)
- Ability to perform system and subsystem hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, and software safety analysis
- Ability to analyze software to identify potential failure conditions and investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns
- Ability to identify systemic root causes and recommend corrective actions
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements
- Verify systems meet defined safety requirements via safety analyses, audits, and reviews
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required for clearance and some program access)
- Export control requirement: must meet U.S. Person definition (U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee)
