About the role
- Develops and validates requirements for various communication, sensor, and other electromagnetic systems and components
- Develops and validates optical requirements for electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures
- Develops architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms
- Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design
- Defines and conducts tests to validate performance of designs to requirements
- Manages supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements
- Provides lifecycle support including root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering support
- Supports project management by providing work statements, budget, schedule inputs and reporting project status
- Writes sections of proposals to support development of new business
- Works onsite at Starfire Optical Range to integrate and field-test adaptive optics and optical imaging systems supporting the Air Force Research Lab
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- 5+ years of experience in optical design
- 5+ years of experience with design, development, testing, and troubleshooting of advanced Electro-Optical Systems
- Willing and able to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
- 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred)
- Advanced study in Optical Specialization (preferred)
- Active U.S. Top Secret Clearance (preferred) and ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance (required)
- Experience working with adaptive optics systems (preferred)
- Experience with high power lasers (preferred)
- Optical System Integration knowledge applicable to IR/EO, visible, UV, photonics, fiber, high energy laser, and optics
- 5+ years of experience performing modeling and/or simulation of Electro-Optical and Infrared systems with Matlab or Mathematica
- Must meet export control compliance requirements (U.S. Person) and U.S. Citizenship required for clearance
