About the role

  • Own end-to-end payload component design, from concept through fabrication and testing
  • Develop and own mechanical requirements, and clearly communicate them to cross-functional partners to drive system development
  • Perform initial structural and thermal sizing of components
  • Rapidly iterate on designs through hands-on hardware development, bringing components from concept to rate production
  • Generate design data, fabrication, and production drawings using GD&T to clearly communicate design intent and ensure low-cost, scalable manufacturability
  • Drive tolerancing and statistical analysis into designs to meet production and quality targets
  • Resolve manufacturing issues and work with vendors and internal stakeholders to disposition hardware on the production floor
  • Create 3D models, detail part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field
  • 7+ years of experience working in aerospace, satellite, automotive, or telecom production environment
  • Experience designing enclosures and/or thermal solutions for high power electronics, high speed electronics, RF electronics, or telecom components
  • Experience owning all aspects of electromechanical unit level development (design, thermal, structural, assembly, and test)
  • Experience working with high volume contract manufacturers
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Mechanical design experience using CAD (Creo/Windchill preferred), hand calculations, and FEA (ANSYS preferred) tools
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis (AMSE Y14.5)
