About the role

  • Participate in the development of policy and regulatory guidance and assist industry in understanding engineering related regulatory requirements within BC.
  • Review submissions for the energy industry related LNG facilities and provide recommendations to decision makers.
  • Champion compliance verification activities and collaborate with other departments as a subject matter expert.
  • Provide engineering advice and direction to BCER inspection staff in evaluating compliance and technical safety issues related to facility design, construction, operation and maintenance.
  • Meet regularly with project proponents, representatives and decision makers within affected government agencies to understand project scope and clarify BCER’s role and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science or Engineering, with five years related experience (PEA 2).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science or Engineering, with nine years related experience; or a Master’s degree in Engineering, with seven years related experience; or Doctor of Engineering with five years related experience (PEA 3).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science or Engineering, with fourteen years related experience, or a Master’s degree in Engineering, with twelve years related experience; or Doctor of Engineering with eleven years related experience (PEA 4).
  • Candidates must be eligible to join the Professional Employees Association (PEA) union and be registered, or be eligible to register, with the Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Professional Licensee Engineering (P.L.Eng.).
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and/or inspection of energy related facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of complex projects in the energy industry, preferably LNG.
  • Demonstrated experience using project management principles, processes and documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with verification methods such as inspection and audit.
  • Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of the Energy Resource Activities Act, Liquefied Natural Gas Facility regulation, Drilling and Production regulation, CSA Z276 and Z662 and recommended practices applied to facilities within British Columbia.
  • Demonstrated experience in piping or tank system design/construction/maintenance.
