About the role
- Developing and executing strategies to ensure License to Operate (LTO) and build and maintain Freedom to Operate (FTO) with U.S. federal government and industry stakeholders
- Monitoring federal political and legislative developments pertinent to the BASF Agricultural Solutions LLC, North America business
- Leading federal government affairs engagement for U.S. Crop Protection portfolio
- Designing and executing federal political advocacy strategy to support CP registration approvals and APD/RN
- Leading Congressional relations engagement strategy and outreach to develop champions of BASF Agricultural Solutions, LLC business and technologies
- Creating Industry Affairs engagement for national associations relevant to US Crop portfolio and CP business objectives
- Advising and briefing Global and North American leadership on business impact of U.S. policy environment to the CP and P&SS portfolio, and US Congressional Relations strategy
- Collaborating closely with BASF Corp. Government Affairs on Congressional Relations engagement strategy
- Serving as a lead of key stakeholder relationships for BASF Ag Solutions, LLC. with Congress and federal government agencies, and national industry associations and commodity groups
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Agricultural Economics, or related field with 10+ years of experience in government relations —preferably with experience in the agriculture sector and working for the federal government
- Have a strong understanding of federal legislative process and key federal agencies; USDA, EPA, etc and experience working with trade associations, coalitions, and external advocacy partners
- Possess an established network with Washington, DC based agriculture associations, coalitions and commodity organizations and strong connections within Congress and across federal agencies in Washington, DC
- Show proven success leading federal advocacy strategy for an agribusiness company
- Have experience managing a Crop Protection issue portfolio a plus
- Posses a strong executive presence; Have excellent communication with experience with public speaking, negotiation, and relationship-building
- Show ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment managing internal stakeholders and collaborating across teams
- Are able to travel 10 to 20% and availability for evening events, as needed.
