About the role
- Design and develop high-precision opto-mechanical assemblies for DLP projection systems, including alignment-sensitive components
- Translate optical concepts into manufacturable mechanical designs in close collaboration with optical engineering
- Define and control mechanical tolerances to ensure optical accuracy, thermal stability, and long-term reliability
- Design small electro-mechanical components such as lens-holder motorization or iris mechanisms, which are integral to the opto-mechanical features of a projector
- Clamp optical components using spring-based mechanisms and calculate optimal spring characteristics to ensure secure and precise positioning of lenses and mirrors
- Support prototyping, industrialization, and high-volume production in partnership with our industrialization and manufacturing teams
- Drive DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) practices and continuous improvement initiatives
- Create and manage detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and BOMs using Creo and Windchill
- Interface with ERP systems for lifecycle management, configuration control, and production readiness
- Engage with suppliers for component selection, qualification, and technical support
- Participate in design reviews, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Provide maintenance, support, and continuous improvement for existing products
Requirements
- Master's degree in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering
- Proven experience in opto-mechanical design for projection systems, imaging devices, or optical products
- Hands-on experience integrating laser, LED, and laser-phosphor light sources
- Proficiency in Creo for 3D modelling and detailed mechanical drawings
- Experience with Windchill for product data and lifecycle management
- Familiarity with ERP systems and their role in engineering/manufacturing workflows
- Solid understanding of mechanical tolerancing, thermal management, and alignment-critical designs
- Experience in spring calculation and clamping optical parts such as lens elements and mirrors
- Experience with small moving mechanical components (mechanical or electronically actuated)
- Experience in key manufacturing processes, including: Die casting, Machining, Spring characterization
- Ability to run simulations in Pro/ENGINEER and interpret test data (mechanical, thermal, etc…)
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English and/or Dutch
