About the role
- Performs all exams by following and verifying referring providers’ orders
- Adheres to established protocols and provides all pertinent patient information utilized by Radiologist for complete dictation
- Uses independent judgement and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures for all ultrasound exams
- Scanning competencies should include, at a minimum, all patient ages, acuity levels and classes, independently and without quality issues
- Performs ultrasound guided procedures and works closely with radiologist or provider
- Educates patients and families about procedure and/or treatment to be performed
- Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions
- Fosters teamwork, ensures efficient use of resources and advocates for quality patient outcomes
- Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements
- Performs troubleshooting as needed and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance
- Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors
- Adheres to safety policies
- Ensures imaging areas and equipment are in a constant state of 'Ready'
- Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable and in accordance with established policies
- Maintains proficiency and competencies signed off for all studies related to certification(s)
- Performs high quality imaging and in accordance with training received
- Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice
- Maintains confidentiality of all work information
- Assures the efficient operation of workflow in the department through patient triage and prioritization
- Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure uninterrupted services
Requirements
- Requires national certification in one area of specialty from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Uncertified new hires who are Registry eligible must obtain certification within 12 months of hire and image with an experienced technologist until they become fully proficient
- BLS certification required
- Successful completion of education and competencies via a clinical rotation with sign-off
- Must also attain physics and body part exam
- This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved by 0-3 years of experience
- Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, ability to analyze data and solve problems
