About the role

  • Act as the SME and provide technical direction/support for component material declarations and environmental compliance
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) and oversee Product Regulatory Compliance activities for UL/CSA/CE/IECEx/ATEX and other applications
  • Review designs with Engineering and verify compliance with standards
  • Develop and maintain close technical relationships with 3rd-party certifying agencies (UL, CSA, FM) to achieve efficient certification outcomes
  • Read and interpret hazardous location standards to ensure certifications are attained within budget and schedule
  • Evaluate pending/upcoming regulatory & environmental changes and recommend courses of action
  • Attend agency discussion meetings to present Badger Meter's position on regulatory changes as needed
  • Act as New Product Development or Project lead engineer for Product Regulatory Compliance actions, including hands-on detailed design reviews
  • Lead teams to achieve required certifications and train development groups on best practices for electronic/electrical, mechanical & system design
  • Interface with corporate legal counsel on proposed regulatory changes
  • Define project scope and costs for product certification, contribute to schedules and budgets, and execute to meet targets
  • Obtain agency certification quotations and prepare associated purchase documentation
  • Develop Critical Components Lists for agency submittals as required
  • Coordinate transfer of test samples to agencies/testing resources and publish test reports and certification documents
  • Up to 15% travel required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field required
  • 7+ years of related specific work experience with UL, CSA, FM, IECEx and ATEX certifications and testing desired
  • Significant experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration Certificate preferred
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) preferred
  • Green Belt/Black Belt training desired or ability to obtain
  • Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Software suite preferred
  • Familiarity with Lean and related manufacturing processes required
  • Thorough knowledge of CSA/UL Class 1/2/3 Division1/2/Zone 0,1,2, and CE Ex standards as they apply to electronic devices required
  • Strong knowledge of electronic circuitry/PCBs and product mitigation techniques for hazardous locations and CE (EMC/LVD) certifications required
  • Ability to determine risk and define mitigation methods
  • Ability to generate basic financial/business justifications and recommendations
  • Ability to communicate, read and write in English required
  • Up to 15% travel required
