About the role
- Provide legal and strategic advice on compliance with U.S. and international customs and import laws
- Conduct HTS classifications, country-of-origin (COO) determinations (including marking requirements), and tariff impact assessments
- Advise on U.S. tariff regimes, including IEEPA, Sections 232 and 301
- Counsel on additional regulatory requirements applicable at import (e.g., FDA and other partner government agencies)
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to assess and mitigate import compliance risks related to products, infrastructure projects, vendors, and suppliers
- Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of global trade compliance policies, processes, and controls
- Support audits, investigations, and remediation efforts related to customs and import compliance
- Develop, review, and advise on global trade compliance provisions in commercial contracts
- Support special projects and other trade compliance initiatives as needed
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (or foreign equivalent)
- 8+ years of overall legal experience
- 5+ years of experience advising on U.S. import laws, including HTS classification, COO determinations, labeling requirements, and regulatory inquiries
- Experience drafting and negotiating global trade compliance provisions
- Experience managing or coordinating with outside counsel
- Strong legal judgment, analytical skills, and ability to provide practical, business-oriented advice
