About the role
- Collect, process and analyze complex geospatial datasets related to insurance activities, and translate them into actionable recommendations to support pricing, underwriting and product strategies.
- Create high-quality maps, dashboards and visualizations for business partners.
- Support spatial risk assessments, catastrophe modeling and exposure analyses.
- Effectively communicate model results and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate closely with business and engineering teams to improve geospatial modeling tools and integrate them into operations.
- Contribute to innovation and the continuous improvement of geospatial and analytical data usage.
- Stay up to date with technological advances and GIS best practices.
Requirements
- University degree in geography, geomatics (GIS), data science, mathematics, physics or a related field (Master’s degree considered an asset).
- Proficiency in English required, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS analysis, including use of QGIS, GeoServer, Postgres/PostGIS, and working with large datasets (industry or academic settings).
- Proficiency in Python and strong software engineering practices (modularity, code reuse, documentation).
- Excellent analytical skills and a strong interest in geospatial applications for insurance pricing.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Collaborative mindset, intellectual curiosity and a desire to contribute to a high-performing team.
- Knowledge of flood modeling and open-source GIS tools (asset).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and CI/CD tools (asset).
- Knowledge of advanced machine learning and optimization techniques (asset).
- Experience in the insurance or financial services sector (asset).
