About the role
- Managing and administering database environments across applications by provisioning, configuring, and tuning for performance that holds up under real use.
- Keeping legacy Oracle systems stable and secure while supporting modernization efforts and system transitions.
- Planning and executing database patching and upgrades without disrupting mission-critical operations.
- Designing and maintaining backup and recovery strategies that actually work when you need them.
- Monitoring database health, performance, and availability, and fixing problems before anyone else notices them.
- Implementing and enforcing database security controls (access, auditing, encryption) in regulated environments.
- Working closely with developers, DevOps, and program teams to make sure data systems support how applications are actually built and used.
- Documenting what matters so that systems are maintainable, auditable, and not dependent on tribal knowledge.
Requirements

- Active DoD/DoW Secret Clearance is required.
- Security+ CE (IAT Level II) certification.
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle in real-world environments.
- A solid understanding of backup/recovery strategies, system monitoring, and performance tuning—including diagnosing query issues, indexing problems, and resource bottlenecks.
- Experience working in environments with strict security requirements (STIG, RMF, or similar), and a clear understanding of how to implement and maintain compliant systems.
- Comfort with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, or PowerShell) to reduce manual work and improve reliability.
- Experience working directly with developers to optimize queries, support data models, and ensure the database supports how the application actually behaves.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database environments (AWS, Azure, etc.) and an understanding of how database management shifts between on-prem and cloud.
- A strong sense of ownership when it comes to data integrity, consistency, and risk, especially in systems that can’t afford to fail.
- The ability to troubleshoot under pressure and make smart decisions when things don’t go as planned.
- Clear communication skills. You can explain what’s happening, why it matters, and what needs to happen next.
