About the role

  • Provide technical design input to proposing and detailing design solutions for highways pavement renewal schemes
  • Lead, manage and take ownership of investigations, detailed design and certification of construction works
  • Prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables to budget and programme
  • Undertake optioneering and feasibility of design solutions and preparation of whole life costing
  • Preparation and review of contract documentation
  • Deliver schemes in accordance with CPS Quality Management Processes and internal standards
  • Work with Project Manager to lead internal Gateway reviews to ensure timely sign off
  • Manage and support all staff to achieve design delivery to budget and programme
  • Review and check deliverables from internal and external designers for compliance
  • Engage with method engineering reviews to drive innovative solutions

Requirements

  • Broad skills, knowledge and understanding of highway related design areas
  • Knowledge of design codes (DMRB/MCDHW/TSRGD)
  • Knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation
  • Hold a relevant College/University vocational qualification (MEng/MSC/BEng/BSc/HNC and HND)
  • Broad understanding of environmental requirements of highway schemes
  • Appropriate recent experience in highway engineering on Local Authority or National Highways
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE or CIHT) is desirable
  • Registered with the Engineering Council and have obtained, or close to obtaining, professional chartership
  • Pavement Engineer Certificate from the institute of Asphalt Technology is desirable
  • Asset Management experience
  • Knowledge of the use of relevant computer design applications
  • Knowledge of the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8
  • Hold appropriate CSCS card registration
  • Proficient IT Skills relevant to Civil Engineering Design and Microsoft Office
  • Recent experience of leading small design teams and coordinating interfaces with other disciplines
