About the role
- Provide technical design input to proposing and detailing design solutions for highways pavement renewal schemes
- Lead, manage and take ownership of investigations, detailed design and certification of construction works
- Prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables to budget and programme
- Undertake optioneering and feasibility of design solutions and preparation of whole life costing
- Preparation and review of contract documentation
- Deliver schemes in accordance with CPS Quality Management Processes and internal standards
- Work with Project Manager to lead internal Gateway reviews to ensure timely sign off
- Manage and support all staff to achieve design delivery to budget and programme
- Review and check deliverables from internal and external designers for compliance
- Engage with method engineering reviews to drive innovative solutions
Requirements
- Broad skills, knowledge and understanding of highway related design areas
- Knowledge of design codes (DMRB/MCDHW/TSRGD)
- Knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation
- Hold a relevant College/University vocational qualification (MEng/MSC/BEng/BSc/HNC and HND)
- Broad understanding of environmental requirements of highway schemes
- Appropriate recent experience in highway engineering on Local Authority or National Highways
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE or CIHT) is desirable
- Registered with the Engineering Council and have obtained, or close to obtaining, professional chartership
- Pavement Engineer Certificate from the institute of Asphalt Technology is desirable
- Asset Management experience
- Knowledge of the use of relevant computer design applications
- Knowledge of the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8
- Hold appropriate CSCS card registration
- Proficient IT Skills relevant to Civil Engineering Design and Microsoft Office
- Recent experience of leading small design teams and coordinating interfaces with other disciplines
