About the role

  • Collaborate with the Director of Games to brainstorm and develop compelling game concepts with engagement, retention, and monetization in mind that meet our Standards of Excellence for delivering high quality experiences to our players;
  • Create and maintain clear concept and design documentation outlining gameplay mechanics, objectives, progression, and overall game vision;
  • Design, build, and iterate on rapid prototypes and small-scale playable experiences to test and validate gameplay ideas;
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Art, QA, and Production to bring designs from concept through launch;
  • Review and provide feedback across Arkadium’s slate of 1st-party and 2nd-party games, including milestones related to art, UX, FTUE, level design, monetization, retention, and performance;
  • Prepare layouts and mockups for game screens, flows, and pop-ups with a strong focus on usability and player experience;
  • Create and fine-tune game content such as levels, puzzles, and obstacles;
  • Playtest, iterate, and refine designs based on qualitative feedback and quantitative data;
  • Analyze player feedback and performance data to make data-informed design decisions;
  • Stay current on casual and web game trends, best practices, and Arkadium’s internal standards of excellence;
  • Oversee game design interns as part of our Arkadianship program;

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working on games that have shipped for public consumption;
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prototype game ideas, including usage of and an understanding of the landscape of AI tools that can be leveraged for prototyping;
  • Strong passion for casual games and a deep understanding of what makes them fun and engaging;
  • Degree or relevant coursework in game design, interactive media, or a related field is a plus;
  • Experience with game design through professional work, personal projects, internships, or coursework;
  • Proficiency with game development tools and languages such as HTML5 and/or Unity;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills;
  • High attention to detail with a critical eye for game balance, UX, and design quality;
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, collaborative environment;
  • A portfolio showcasing game design work or related projects is highly desirable;
