About the role

  • Provide effective support and assistance to Design Team Leader on various Structures schemes.
  • Take the lead on projects and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
  • Produce technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Take ownership and lead projects from start to finish, from preparing the quotation to handover.
  • Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
  • Oversee junior members of staff and take responsibility for their tasks.
  • Contribute to professional development of junior staff as a Delegated Engineer.
  • Liaise with Client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries.
  • Manage a small, locally based single discipline technical team and take responsibility for delivery of their workload.
  • Contribute to preparing bids and general work winning function.
  • Drive effective Health and Safety practices within the team.

Requirements

  • Developed experience and expertise within Structures field, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
  • An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and Client’s requirements.
  • Takes ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables and can check deliverables to a reasonable standard.
  • Very good working knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (e.g LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
  • Demonstrates good commercial awareness.
  • Has a good understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
  • Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management, and ensures own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines.
  • Incorporated/Chartered status or working towards Chartership with the ICE or IstructE or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
