About the role

  • To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
  • The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
  • Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
  • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
  • Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of workload.
  • Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
  • Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working.

Requirements

  • A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts
  • The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income
  • Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
  • A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
  • A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design
  • The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required
  • Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required
  • Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team
