General Counsel

• Providing day‑to‑day legal advice to internal stakeholders across the business on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters.
• Advising on the design and roll‑out of new products, services and business offerings, including advising on cross‑border business activities, passporting arrangements and applicable conduct of business rules.
• Reviewing, drafting and negotiating customer‑facing contractual agreements, disclosures, account documentation and website materials.
• Reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with institutional clients and counterparties.
• Assisting with regulatory inquiries from UK & EU regulatory authorities, as well as UK, EU, and worldwide exchanges.

Legal Counsel

Compliance

• Establish and lead a “compliance-by-design” framework that keeps Alpaca’s twin ADGM licences, Category 3A and 3B, in pristine regulatory standing.
• Chair the internal Compliance Committee and deliver quarterly reports to the Board.
• Keep a live register of all FSRA rules and update policies.
• Own the AML/CFT programme, conduct annual business-risk assessments.
• Maintain the Accepted Virtual Asset list, oversee blockchain-analytics, and ensure compliance with FSRA requirements.
• Run a risk-based monitoring plan, complete thematic reviews, and store evidence for inspections.
• Specify and integrate KYC/AML engines and trade-surveillance tools.
• File all periodic and ad-hoc FSRA returns on time; act as single point of contact for enforcement queries.
• Deliver annual AML and rules refreshers; maintain logs for 6 years.
• Maintain the breach register and oversee remediation.

Head of Compliance, MLRO

Risk

• Design, implement, and monitor risk limits for new products. Perform daily monitoring of Value-at-Risk (VaR), stress testing, and sensitivity analysis.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to refine and stress-test our Margin engine, ensuring margin requirements accurately reflect cross-product offsets and tail risks.
• Assist in the design and roll-out of the Enterprise Risk Management framework. This includes defining Risk Appetite Statements (RAS), maintaining the Risk Register, and developing Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) that span across the organization.
• Act as the risk lead for the launch of new products, identifying unique risks associated with event-based binary outcomes and liquidity fragmentation.
• Develop forward-looking scenarios (including "black swan" events) to assess the impact of market volatility on the firm’s capital and liquidity positions.
• Support the wider Risk team in Operational Risk assessments, internal audits, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Build automated risk dashboards and reporting tools using SQL/Python to provide real-time insights to the Chief Risk Officer and Senior Management.

Market Risk Analyst

• Act as a vital link between tax legislation and our engineering pods. Help translate complex requirements (e.g., German Abgeltungsteuer logic, capital gains offset rules) into clear, actionable requirements for product managers and backend developers.
• While your primary mandate is the German market, you will partner with senior management to research, interpret, and integrate tax calculation and reporting logic for secondary markets, with an immediate focus on Spain and France.
• Contribute specialized tax input for new product launches. Assist in reviewing tax logic during the design phase and support the testing of calculation engines to ensure accuracy before launch.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on German personal income tax, capital gains taxation, and local reporting obligations for financial instruments (equities, ETFs, derivatives, crypto).
• Support the continuous improvement and automation of tax-related workflows, helping the operations team minimize manual reviews and optimize cross-border efficiency.
• Monitor updates and changes in relevant tax laws across our core and target jurisdictions, summarizing potential impacts on Alpaca's platform logic and end-clients.
• Act as a reliable contact person for the German BZSt (and assist with the Spanish AEAT) regarding routine product tax, withholding inquiries, and client reporting.
• Facilitate interactions with external local tax advisors, auditors, and outsourced compliance partners across different jurisdictions, ensuring they have the data and context they need.

Tax Manager – Product & Operations

• Own and optimize the global HRIS (BambooHR), ensuring it serves as the single source of truth for all employee data.
• Integrate HR systems with peripheral tools (Payroll, ATS, Slack, Equity Management) to eliminate manual data entry and ensure "one-click" reporting.
• Audit system permissions and workflows regularly to ensure security, privacy, and an intuitive user experience for managers and individual contributors.
• Standardize the end-to-end employee lifecycle, from seamless global onboarding to professional and compliant offboarding.
• Design and manage scalable benefits, leave-of-absence programs, and perks that remain competitive across various international markets.
• Build a tiered internal support model to resolve employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and policies with high speed and accuracy.
• Monitor and implement changes to labor laws and employment regulations across all operating jurisdictions to ensure 100% compliance.
• Author and maintain the Global Employee Handbook, ensuring policies are clearly communicated, culturally relevant, and legally sound.
• Lead internal audits and risk assessments related to employment practices, classification, and workplace safety.
• Establish rigorous data entry standards to ensure all People metrics (headcount, turnover, time-to-hire) are accurate and audit-ready.
• Develop and socialize monthly/quarterly People Dashboards that provide leadership with insights into performance trends and retention drivers.
• Collaborate with Finance on compensation benchmarking and equity analysis to ensure internal parity and market competitiveness.
• Defragment existing manual processes by building automated workflows that reduce administrative "drag" on executives and department heads.
• Define and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all People Ops functions to ensure business continuity as the team grows.
