About the role

  • Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions.
  • Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for cases; prepare for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare summaries and reports.
  • Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
  • Interview clients and witnesses; draft summaries of their statements and maintain communication records.
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings; may represent the company in routine matters.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing cases.
  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work.
  • Provide counsel to business clients and coordinate between legal teams.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
  • Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process.
  • Skilled in client communication, interviewing witnesses, and maintaining records.
  • Well-versed in legal ethics and the standards of professional conduct.
  • Equipped with fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies for settlement discussions.
  • Must be commutable distance to courthouses throughout the Houston, TX area.
  • Candidate will be required to submit to a background investigation.
  • Allstate generally does not sponsor individuals for employment-based visas for this position.
