About the role
- Represent clients in high complexity/exposure insurance litigation (generally cases > $1,000,000)
- Handle all aspects of defending an inventory of cases from assignment to conclusion
- Manage client relationships: initial contact, case status updates, evaluation and strategy
- Provide advice and recommendations on liability, damages and case value
- Draft pleadings, written discovery, motions, briefs
- Prepare for and conduct hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, trials and appeals
- Manage case inventory, prioritize work, conduct legal research and analysis
- Identify, retain, and consult with experts; prepare witnesses and experts for trial
- Maintain computerized case diary/litigation support systems and review evidence and records
- Mentor and train colleagues and claims partners; perform special assignments as needed
Requirements
- Juris Doctor required, law school degree from a State or American Bar Association accredited law school
- Member in good standing of the State Bar in the state in which the position is located
- Minimum of 10 years demonstrated experience in high exposure and complex litigation matters
- Minimum five years experience handling larger exposure matters
- Minimum of 20 trials to verdict or equivalent conclusion, with at least 15 of those trials serving as 1st chair
- 25 direct examinations/cross examinations at trial of medical and technical experts
- 2 years working in the insurance industry or with insurance claims
- Expansive knowledge of both procedural and substantive law
- Superlative trial, public speaking, case preparation, advocacy, negotiation, deposition, and expert witness skills
- Ability to travel for court appearances within State of licensure and Courts of Admittance
