About the role

  • Respond to user-reported database errors and issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine database maintenance including upgrades, backups, recovery, and migration procedures.
  • Protect databases against unauthorized access and potential security threats.
  • Ensure databases are adequately backed up and recoverable in the event of data loss.
  • Monitor and report on database performance and usage metrics.
  • Profile server resource usage and optimize configurations and database engines as necessary.
  • Write, review, and optimize in-application SQL statements to improve performance.
  • Design databases with consideration for both front-end and back-end user requirements.
  • Suggest and implement improvements for database maintenance and protection.
  • Collaborate with IT project managers, database programmers, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in SQL database administration.
  • Experience with modern relational databases and SQL Server 2008 or higher.
  • Proficiency in writing and optimizing large, complex SQL statements.
  • Knowledge of best practices for relational database management and security.
  • Ability to configure popular database engines and orchestrate clusters as necessary.
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high-level specifications.
  • Capable of troubleshooting common database issues independently.
  • Familiarity with tools used for profiling server resource usage and performance optimization.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as GitLab.
  • Familiarity with SSIS packages.
  • Proficiency with Windows 10 as a desktop and laptop operating system.
