About the role
- Create and sustain next-generation, energy-efficient, intelligent, wired and wireless lighting control systems for commercial and industrial applications.
- Design, model, and test mixed-signal processor-based electronics, design and source PCBs, specify and source electronic components, and specify and manage firmware.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to optimize system-level integration and performance.
- Evaluate existing and emerging technologies to identify solutions that will reliably operate in various installed environments.
- Evaluate Intellectual Property (IP) landscape to identify risks created by existing IP and opportunities for developing valuable new IP.
- Design and support products according to relevant electrical code and laboratory standards, and support the UL / CSA testing and listing process for products.
- Design and support wireless communication products that comply with FCC Part 15 and manage submissions for compliance testing.
- Work closely with manufacturing to ensure that designs meet manufacturability and testing criteria and sustain these products in manufacturing.
- Develop and distribute engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, Bills of Material, and parts tracking.
- Perform system integration and validation testing activities, including verification of interoperability with customer-supplied peripherals.
- Mentor junior team members on technical and professional subjects.
- Actively contribute to design reviews, catching challenging errors and providing possible solutions.
- Clearly communicate design and component constraints and trade-offs to other team members and management, acting as a subject matter expert.
- Help drive fast design decisions that best support the business strategy.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is required.
- 7+ years of experience specific to analog and digital low voltage circuit design, PCB design, and layout, ideally using Altium.
- Expertise in AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, power electronics, and AC circuit protection required.
- Expertise in designing wireless products that comply with FCC Part 15 certifications.
- Experience in modeling, P-Spice simulation, circuit analysis, thermal analysis, MTBF, and product lifetime expectancy calculation required.
- Experience with communication and networking protocols (I2C, SPI, RS-485, Ethernet, etc.) is required.
- Demonstrated ability to devise novel technical solutions, lateral thinking, willingness to challenge existing practice, and desire to add new functionalities or start new product categories are required.
- Strong project management skills with ability to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision are required.
- Experience creating product test plans with a hands-on approach required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Experience mentoring junior team members is required.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of firmware is required.
- Experience with wireless communication protocols (Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Bluetooth, BLE, Proprietary, etc.).
