About the role
- Manage Linux platforms and containers across hybrid environments supporting NOAA’s Marine Operations
- Install, configure, and maintain RHEL/Ubuntu with CIS/NOAA hardening
- Operate Linux-based applications and pipelines (CORIOLIX, OpenRVDAS, Globus)
- Containerize and orchestrate services using Docker/Podman and Kubernetes
- Implement configuration management and IaC (Ansible, Cloud-Init/Kickstart)
- Monitor Linux performance and triage system issues
- Manage keys/secrets and integrate with AAD/Key Vault
- Provide Tier 2 support for Linux-based scientific workflows
- Participate in post-cruise reviews and update runbooks quarterly
Requirements
- 5 years administering Linux in production/hybrid environments
- Strong skills in package management, systemd, SELinux/AppArmor, and TCP/IP
- Proficient with Ansible and shell/Python scripting
- Experience running CORIOLIX/OpenRVDAS/Globus and optimizing I/O at sea
- Clear communication and documentation skills
- RHCSA/RHCE or LFCS/LFCE (preferred)
- CKA/CKAD or Docker DCA (preferred)
- CompTIA Linux+ Security+ (preferred)
