Affiliate Manager

• The Digital Communications Intern will help execute the chapter’s storytelling and social media objectives.
• The role will be instrumental in growing the chapter’s digital presence on key social media platforms, improving how we approach storytelling, and engaging with our social media followers.
• Assist with the ACLU’s Election Observer program through volunteer recruitment, communication, and organization.
• Plan and lead community events to educate and mobilize citizen engagement.
• Participate in coalition meetings and phone calls to gather and share information with partners, and to help inform ACLU programming.

Undergraduate/Graduate Intern, Affiliate Support & Nationwide Initiatives

General

• Conduct prospect research to deepen our knowledge of donors’ capacity and inclination to make a major gift to the ACLU.
• Learn about enterprise-wide fundraising tools, including data analytics and resources to support prospect segmentation and analysis.
• Assist in prospect identification through an ongoing calendar of internal and external prospecting reviews including upgrade reports and assessments of vendor screening data.
• Make recommendations for assigning prospects to national and affiliate portfolios and communicate those recommendations to nationwide fundraisers.
• Other duties potentially include Salesforce CRM data entry, business intelligence reporting projects, writing event bios, and assisting with other NPSPD department projects.

Undergraduate Intern, Prospect Development and Portfolio Strategy

Learning and Development

• The intern will learn about the range of work within the Leadership and Planned Gifts and Corporate Engagement teams through attending team meetings and taking on individual assignments.
• Additionally, the intern will be exposed to the work of other teams within the Development Department.
• Data analysis of donors/prospects and database management including digitizing paper archives.
• Learn about and conduct basic prospect research, of individuals and/or businesses' history supporting civil rights related work
• Monitor current events and curate list of resources for portfolio managers.
• Assist with small group gatherings intended for donor education, cultivation and stewardship, including ACLU's Creatives for Freedom Concert.

Undergraduate Intern, Leadership and Planned Gifts – Development Team

Communications

• Support the team by doing research, drafting scripts and paper edits, transcribing and reviewing interview footage, and editing videos.
• Assist on shoots and interviews, participating in brainstorms and meetings.
• Pitch topics and provide background research for podcast episodes.
• Assist with remote and in-person episode tapings.
• Edit podcast taping transcripts and prepare publish packaging for podcast episodes.
• Research video topics, draft scripts, review and transcribe video footage.
• Edit short videos for social media and help copyedit video content.
• Assist with remote or in-person video recording sessions or photo shoots.

Justice

• Assist with campaign strategy and operations to advance civil liberties and civil rights through multiple methods at the federal, state, and local levels

Graduate Intern, National Political Advocacy – Justice National Campaigns

Attorney

• The intern will work on legal and policy research and writing-related projects centered on criminal justice.
• Assist members of our team with researching and analyzing legislation, elected officials, and relevant developments in the political and advocacy landscapes on the state and federal levels.
• Help prepare advocacy and public education materials, correspondence, and reports as needed.
• Assist with identifying opportunities to advance civil liberties and civil rights in complex policy areas through multiple methods at the federal, state, and local levels.
• Conduct legal and policy research, and analyze state and federal legislation, advocacy efforts, and related legal and policy issues.
• Monitor legal and legislative developments across states, and assist with identifying opportunities to advance civil liberties and civil rights.
• Prepare advocacy and public education materials, such as model policies and toolkits for ACLU affiliates, partners, and others; draft memorandum and other correspondence.
• Assist with coordinating briefings for government officials and with preparing and drafting testimony on pending legislation.
• Help manage projects and coordinate strategy to reach campaign goals or other policy/political outcomes across ACLU departments, ACLU affiliates, and coalition partners.

Graduate Legal Intern, Justice Policy & Government Affairs

• The intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working with various members of the Strategy Office on multiple projects
• Support annual planning and budgeting processes and internal communications
• Support election safeguarding and rapid response preparations to drive alignment and efficiency in ensuring a free and fair election
• Coordinate data collection on key programmatic and strategic metrics and analyze and identify learnings
• Conduct analysis on external trends
• Provide support in logistics and agenda setting for leadership retreats

Fall Legal Intern – Capital Punishment Project

• Interns provide critical support to our team in litigation and other forms of advocacy.
• Responsibilities for interns may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Conduct legal research and analysis to support new and active litigation projects;
• Aid in drafting of legal memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs;
• Draft and edit public education and non-litigation advocacy materials;
• Provide support and assistance to ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys;
• Potential to work closely with clients and participate in outreach with impacted communities, discovery, and trial practice.

Legal Intern, Voting Rights Project

• Responsible for research and writing projects relating to litigation in state supreme courts.
• Draft memoranda, motions, and portions of briefs.
• Conduct legal and factual research concerning issues and cases in multiple state supreme courts.
• Track cases and issues of interest to the SSCI.
• Center principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging in all work.

Legal Intern – State Supreme Court Initiative

• Interns will gain valuable experience working alongside the team assisting in all aspects of litigation, as well as exposure to policy advocacy and communications campaigns.
• Conducting legal research and analysis.
• Aiding in drafting memoranda, motions, declarations, and legal pleadings.
• Providing general assistance on active litigation, including cite-checking.
• Supporting development of new litigation projects.
• Additional responsibilities could include working on fact development, conducting background research, or tracking and analyzing bills.

Legal Intern, Reproductive Freedom Project

• The intern will be responsible for conducting legal and factual research and otherwise supporting RJP’s ongoing litigation, investigations, and advocacy efforts.

Legal Intern, Racial Justice Program

• Legal interns gain valuable experience by working with the National Prison Project team.
• They learn about creating change through prison reform litigation and advocacy work.
• Researching and drafting legal memorandum and briefing regarding the rights of incarcerated people.
• Gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing current information related to prison, jail, and detention center conditions.
• Researching and drafting prospects for new litigation and / or campaign advocacy.
• Assisting with the drafting, production, and distribution of advocacy and public education materials.
• Providing other litigation and advocacy support to supervising attorneys.

Legal Intern, National Prison Project

• The interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with IRP.
• They will learn about impact litigation and other legal advocacy tools on immigrants’ rights issues by working closely with attorneys in developing and litigating cases across various jurisdictions.
