About the role
- The Director, Federal Government Affairs, will serve as Abridge’s primary on-the-ground federal affairs lead in Washington, DC.
- Develop clear policy positions, advocacy strategies, and response plans for priority federal proposals.
- Manage and coordinate external lobbyists and policy consultants to advance legislative and regulatory objectives. Ensure compliance with lobbying disclosure requirements..
- Build and maintain relationships with Congressional offices, Federal agencies, and senior agency staff.
- Monitor, analyze, and brief leadership on relevant Federal legislation, regulatory activity, and emerging trends in healthcare and AI policy.
- Identify, build, and participate in coalitions with aligned companies, associations, providers, and advocacy organizations.
- Prepare leadership for DC engagements, including background memos and stakeholder maps.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure policy strategy aligns with product roadmap, regulatory posture, and go-to-market priorities.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in federal government affairs, ideally in healthcare, digital health, or technology policy.
- Strong working knowledge of federal policymaking processes, including legislative and regulatory pathways.
- Experience representing an organization at external policy events or public forums.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts (AI/ML, regulatory frameworks, clinical workflows) into accessible policy narratives.
- Demonstrated experience working with or managing external lobbyists.
- Proven ability to build relationships and credibility with policymakers, staff, and coalition partners.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise business judgement; interest in joining a small team that prioritizes autonomy and trust.
