About the role
- Evolve the Design System: Define visual language, interaction patterns, and component standards leveraging Figma libraries, design tokens, and variable-based theming for multi-platform scalability.
- Implement a sophisticated token architecture: Drive adoption of semantic tokens for style foundations to ensure consistency across web and native environments.
- Collaborate with engineering: Partner with developers to integrate tokens into codebases and ensure parity between design and production using tools like Figma Rest API and Storybook.
- Maintain robust documentation: Create clear, accessible guidelines for components, patterns, and usage principles in Figma.
- Champion accessibility and inclusivity: Validate components against WCAG standards and ensure global usability.
- Mentor and foster design system culture: Host office hours, tutorials, and workshops to teach best practices for implementing the Design System in their workflows and designs.
- Foster design education and community building: Create learning resources, internal documentation, and lead initiatives that promote a culture of design excellence across the organization.
- Advocate for design maturity: Present new component logic, advise on native and custom patterns to stakeholders, socialize updates, and mentor designers on system best practices.
- Stay ahead of trends: Continuously research emerging tools (e.g., AI-assisted design, variable fonts, advanced prototyping, MCP servers) to keep the system future-ready.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Design, HCI, or equivalent experience.
- 5 years minimum in digital product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing design system principles across responsive web and native apps.
- Expertise in Figma: Advanced use of variables, component properties, variants, auto-layout, Dev Mode and token plugins.
- Familiarity with design-to-code workflows, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React, AEM, SwiftUI, and Kotlin.
- Experience with design tokens, variable theming, usage of native components and cross-platform component architecture.
- Strong understanding of Agile and Design Thinking methodologies.
- Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative insights into scalable design solutions.
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills in a remote environment.
- Proficiency in mentoring and teaching others: Skilled at guiding designers through design system adoption and best practices, fostering growth and knowledge-sharing across teams.
