About the role
- Leads Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) medical affairs activities in North America (US and Canada)
- Established and leverage critical relationships with regional key opinion leaders at scientific conferences and advisory boards
- Engages in projects related to research, medical education and medical communication
- Provides medical support for the commercial organization
- Provides strategic guidance through participation in key associations (medical, clinical, industry) to influence policy and regulations regarding medical devices
- Directly reports to the Chief Medical Officer and interacts closely with area functions, in country senior staff and in country marketing and commercial teams
- Owns the medical affairs work stream within the region, which has a critical impact on the business
- Leads dedicated medical affairs staff in the region
Requirements
- MD degree with board certification and competency in clinical diabetes care
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in a management role
- Minimum of 3 years of industry experience managing teams of 5 or more people
- Hands-on experience in the management of patients with diabetes
- Scientific credibility with internal and external groups; must convey complex scientific and clinical information to wide variety of audiences
- Interacts frequently with key experts
- Fluency in English
- Additional post-graduate qualification such as Master’s Degree in public health, health economics or health policy preferred
- Knowledge of clinical research, medical risk management and/or medical device regulations preferred
- Clinical background in diabetology / endocrinology preferred
- Experience with clinical study design, health economics or medical statistics preferred
- Fluency in French preferred
