About the role
- Identify, scope, plan and conduct medium-size to complex assigned capital projects for Abbott RMDx – Infectious Disease sites.
- Communicate project progress and escalate issues to management in a timely manner.
- Lead development of Project Charter and document initial requirements that satisfy stakeholder needs and expectations.
- Establish engineering project objectives and technical criteria; monitor and control project work to meet project plan performance objectives.
- Focus on cost and milestone achievement to optimize resource utilization.
- Identify areas of risk and mitigate risks through early risk assessments and implementation of fallback/mitigation strategies.
- Prepare engineering designs and work specifications; develop project schedules, budgets and forecasts; select materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.
- Develop capital project scope by working with quality, manufacturing, and engineering teams; develop multiple alternate options and guide leaders on business cases.
- Prepare RFP/RFQ documentation, update equipment specifications, and conduct detailed equipment design conversations with equipment suppliers.
- Use established project management tools and techniques to stay within authorized budget limits and achieve project objectives.
- Direct project team members, set goals and objectives, monitor progress, conduct meetings and prepare reports to communicate project status.
- Conduct financial and operational data analysis to evaluate savings potential, monitor project performance, and synthesize data-driven insights for strategic planning and portfolio optimization.
- Prepare reports, publish findings, make presentations, and document lessons learned; manage multiple projects and adhere to internal process timelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in mechanical, industrial, chemical, electrical, bio-medical or related discipline.
- 5+ years of operations engineering experience.
- Approximately 2 years' experience in managing capital projects of varying complexity.
- Demonstrated experience with Technical Project Planning.
- Demonstrated clear, crisp and transparent communication style which conveys timely updates to leadership and key project stakeholders.
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Preferred: Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering degree.
- Preferred: Experience in manufacturing site engineering.
- Preferred: Project Cost Accounting experience.
- Preferred: Basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Preferred: PMP or other relevant project management certification.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
