About the role
- Handle a full inventory of more complex litigated and non-litigated files, including two to three trials per year as well as discovery, arbitration, and mediation with minimal management oversight
- Advise and mentor less senior attorneys
- Apply independent analysis and judgment to prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs, etc. with close coordination and input from claims specialists
- Appear and advocate on behalf of CSAA IG and its member insureds
- Conduct all phases of personal injury litigation including jury trials, motions, and arbitration hearings
- Assigned and responsible for the most complex and/or highest value cases
- Work on and responsible for handling complex legal matters or projects including matters not in litigation
- Serve as a resource for assigned legal disciplines and resolves major issues within legal specialty area with considerable independence
- Anticipate and advise on potential legal issues significantly impacting insurance and motor club operations
Requirements
- 10-12+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with considerable courtroom and first-chair trial experience
- Advanced degree in related area that Requires law degree and passing of bar exam
- Certification(s) and/or licensure(s) in functional area
- License from state of practice required (California)
- Skilled in personal injury litigation including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, personal injury damages and causation and the tri-partite relationship
- Knowledge of general liability insurance coverage and CSAA IG policies
- Proficient computer skills, including MS office and online research tools
- Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively and effectively
- The ability to think and act independently in a client’s best interest
- Knowledge and understanding of legal ethics
