• As a high-impact Assistant Corporate Controller at Owlet, you will be instrumental in shaping our financial future. We are looking for a seasoned accounting professional with a proven track record in scaling high-growth, public companies. This role demands a strategic thinker with exceptional financial acumen and a passion for building and optimizing complex financial systems.
• Review journal entries, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adequate supporting documentation.
• Provide final approval for journal entries, demonstrating ownership and accountability.
• Oversee the preparation and review of account reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, timely resolution of discrepancies and proper documentation.
• Establish and enforce clear standards for account reconciliation procedures, promoting consistency and control.
• Ensure strict adherence to GAAP, providing guidance and interpretation of accounting standards to the accounting team.
• Play a pivotal role in the preparation and review of all SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, etc.), ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and reporting requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of disclosure footnotes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with SEC regulations.
• Support the tie-out process of financial statements and footnotes, including verification of supporting documentation.
• Support the external audit process, providing timely and accurate responses to auditor inquiries and requests.
• Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and guidance to the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify development opportunities for team members.
• Effectively manage team workload, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely completion of deadlines.
• Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new team members, ensuring the team has the necessary skills and expertise.
• Foster open communication and collaboration within the team and with other departments, ensuring effective information sharing.
• Address and resolve team conflicts in a timely and professional manner.
• Identify and recommend opportunities to improve processes.
• Facilitate the standardization of processes across the team to create efficiencies.
• Assist in the implementation of technology solutions to enhance efficiency.
• Support the remediation of identified control deficiencies.
• Assist in Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities, including preparing the Company for SOX 404(b) standards.
• Partner with business leaders to provide financial insights and support strategic initiatives.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, lenders, and board members.

Assistant Corporate Controller

• Overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls
• Ensuring accuracy and compliance of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Preparing and reviewing financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Performing variance analysis, trend analysis, and reconciliations
• Managing financial transformation initiatives
• Collaborating with senior leadership to develop strategic financial plans

Lead Controllership

• Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client’s accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
• Act as a consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
• Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
• Foster and build opportunities for our clients, communities, and people.
• Become an industry professional and attend industry-leading events and training.
• Maintain knowledge of the client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.

Assistant Controller – CAAS, State and Local Government

• The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations related to client health and welfare plans within the Government Contracting Practice.
• This role manages premium administration, banking arrangements, cash reconciliation, financial reporting, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
• The Controller partners with senior leadership to develop and execute financial strategies that support client benefit plans and the practice’s goals.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely maintenance of financial records.
• Conduct financial analysis to inform management decisions and performance insights.
• Present financial results and recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders.

Controller – Government Contracting Practice

• Develops internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinates and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization.
• Prepare financial information.
• Prepare, or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitors and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.
