About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess small and standard Group Protection schemes alongside experienced underwriters
  • Apply underwriting guidelines and evaluate risk and commercial viability
  • Support sound underwriting decisions
  • Take increasing ownership of monthly loss ratio reporting and portfolio analysis
  • Identify emerging trends, risk exposures and opportunities to improve portfolio performance and profitability
  • Develop analytical reports, dashboards and management information for Group Savings and Group Protection schemes
  • Identify unusual patterns, deteriorating experience and areas requiring further investigation
  • Maintain accurate management information
  • Support control processes and ensure records remain robust, auditable and compliant with internal governance requirements
  • Build relationships with colleagues across the wider insurance business
  • Complete the internal underwriting training programme

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Previous insurance experience would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Genuine interest in how economic, social and geopolitical factors can influence risk and business outcomes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret complex information and draw evidence-based conclusions
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound judgements
  • Ability to communicate recommendations within established guidelines
  • Proactive and adaptable approach
  • Willingness to take ownership, embrace change and continuously learn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain analysis and decisions clearly to a range of stakeholders
  • Confidence working with data
  • Willingness to develop technical analytical skills
  • Experience with Excel, SQL, R, Python or similar tools would be advantageous
