About the role
- Administer and maintain underwriting rules, guidelines, and rating manuals, ensuring compliance with insurance laws and regulations.
- Develop, maintain and collaborate with representatives from various lines of business to meet activity-related needs.
- Build and maintain relationships with agents and brokers to support retention, new-client acquisition and solution-seeking.
- Serve as a point of contact and support for agents, brokers and clients within Zurich’s commercial culture.
- Proactively seek renewal opportunities and new business.
- Evaluate opportunities with key partners to identify growth areas.
- Qualify accounts to ensure alignment with Zurich’s appetite and strong business opportunities.
- Conduct calls with brokers and clients with planned, well-prepared objectives.
- Propose cross-sell opportunities to expand Zurich’s product offering.
- Promote Zurich products and services to increase market penetration.
- Participate in commercial team meetings for the assigned portfolio.
- Manage a target list 90 to 120 days prior to the effective date.
- Update required systems with broker/client visit details and account status within established timeframes.
- Act as the primary contact for assigned target accounts.
- Accurately calculate target pricing using underwriting tools.
- Measure exposures and analyze risks.
- Issue quotations, define coverages and negotiate terms and conditions.
- Manage accounts and handle declinations/cancellations.
- Take part in marketing presentations to assigned agents/brokers.
- Resolve technical issues using established policies and procedures.
- Provide technical expertise on short-term, defined-scope projects.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory controls governing practices.
- Gather information from established sources to make accurate decisions and facilitate client decision-making.
- Monitor underwriting processes to identify improvement opportunities.
- Travel for business as required.
- Work extended hours during peak periods, if necessary.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent plus one year or more of experience in commercial insurance or client relations OR
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two years or more of experience in claims management or underwriting support
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and its legal and regulatory environment
- Understanding of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local regulations and guidelines
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.
