About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead governance and execution of global Key Opinion Leader (KOL) and external expert engagement across multiple therapeutic areas and/or species
  • Build and operationalize a compliant KOL ecosystem supporting scientific exchange, evidence generation, advisory insights, and coordinated regional engagement
  • Partner with Global Medical Affairs, Global Portfolio Marketing, Commercial, R&D, Diagnostics, and regional/local teams
  • Support and continuously refine a global KOL data repository in Salesforce
  • Drive process improvements for planning cycles, insight capture, and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Develop KOL AI profiling capabilities in Salesforce
  • Implement and enforce KOL engagement governance, including SOP adherence, transparency reporting readiness, contracting, documentation, and audit trails
  • Create KOL profiles and engagement pathways
  • Partner with regions to validate KOL prioritization and local relevance
  • Maintain a global KOL strategy aligned with therapeutic-area priorities, product lifecycle needs, and scientific communication plans
  • Develop annual KOL engagement plans covering segmentation, objectives, channels, cadence, and resourcing
  • Identify and prioritize scientific engagement opportunities such as congresses, symposia, publication initiatives, advisory boards, speaker programs where permitted, and digital engagements
  • Create a closed-loop KOL insights process from capture through action completion
  • Define KPIs and dashboards and use analytics to optimize segmentation, engagement mix, and resource allocation
  • Serve as the global point of contact for KOL management
  • Guide and enable regional/local KOL owners on tools, standards, and best practices
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment across Medical, Commercial, Diagnostics, Marketing, R&D, and external communications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred (DVM, PhD, or MSc) in a relevant scientific discipline
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, scientific engagement, or related life sciences roles
  • 3+ years of experience in KOL/external expert management
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing compliant HCP/KOL engagements at country, regional, or global scale
  • Strong working knowledge of industry compliance requirements, including HCP interactions, transparency, FMV, contracts, and privacy
  • Experience in a global or matrixed role spanning multiple geographies preferred
  • Experience with KOL/CRM tools, stakeholder mapping methodologies, and analytics-enabled engagement measurement preferred
  • Experience designing insight-to-action processes and governance preferred
  • Strategic stakeholder management and influence without authority
  • Cross-cultural effectiveness and global mindset
  • Ability to work in ambiguity
  • Scientific/clinical literacy and strong business acumen
  • Excellent facilitation and advisory board leadership skills
  • High attention to detail, documentation discipline, and operational rigor
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Willingness to travel up to 20–30%
