About the role
- Technical leadership as a senior individual contributor within a distributed team of six engineers
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and marketing to shape product direction
- Design and build systems for data collection, account management, and permission management
- Design and run experiments to validate ideas using real user feedback
- Break down complex ambiguous problems into simpler parts for incremental delivery
- Balance speed and quality, prioritising immediate value and long-term scalability
- Build maintainable, extensible, and testable solutions following engineering best practices
- Mentor and support teammates, improving team processes and impact
- Solve backend challenges across microservices and data pipelines and write high-quality code
- Ship to production frequently, aiming for daily releases or faster
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on back-end development experience
- Proven experience leading technical decisions and mentoring engineers
- Experience improving system architecture and championing technical quality
- Pragmatic mindset favouring simple, elegant solutions
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and iterating in short feedback loops
- Experience shipping to production frequently (daily releases or faster)
- Strong experience with Kotlin and Spring Boot and/or Python with FastAPI and Django
- Familiarity with microservices and building data pipelines
- Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform
- Experience with BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as ArgoCD and GitHub Actions
- High standards for developer experience, testable and maintainable code
