About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform a variety of complex accounting, financial analyses and financial reporting functions.
  • Work independently, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of accounting and data analytics in area of responsibility.
  • Take ownership for quality results and exercise judgement to determine the best approach to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Think critically to anticipate and detect issues.
  • Identify, design, and drive system and process improvements.
  • Utilize strong analytical skills to solve complex accounting and data reporting problems.
  • Preparation of quarterly unaudited and annual audited U.S. GAAP financial statements and footnotes.
  • Preparation of NAIC statutory statements, MD&A, and required annual schedules.
  • Preparation of quarterly President’s Report (CEO/CFO Report), IFRS financial statements, and supplemental reporting for Fairfax.
  • Primary liaison with external auditors; management of audit requests.
  • Monitoring and implementing FASB updates, GAAP Codification and NAIC SSAPs changes, and emerging accounting standards.
  • Maintaining internal control support, process documentation, and audit evidence.
  • Drafting disclosures, supporting schedules, and cross‑statement tie‑outs.
  • Ensuring alignment across GAAP, STAT, and IFRS.
  • Responding to auditor inquiries and regulatory requests.
  • Managing audit committee materials preparation.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training/experience in Accounting/Finance/Economics or related field required
  • 7+ years relevant, progressively responsible accounting/financial analysis experience or 3+ years of public accounting experience required
  • CPA certificate or an MBA preferred
  • GAAP, IFRS or SEC experience preferred
  • Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Oracles EBS experience a plus.
  • Strong math and reading skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable to the changing needs of the department.
  • Willing to assume new responsibilities as they arise and replace old routines with improved methods of problem solving.
  • Ability to think creatively and effectively manage time (i.e., prioritize work and handle multiple assignments simultaneously).
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to communicate with customers at all levels about the company's policies.
  • Highly ethical standards (integrity and confidentiality).
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility to meet established/changing deadlines.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Detail oriented, organized, analytical and thorough with a demonstrated ability to implement cost effective processes and controls.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to process, analyze and extrapolate complex data.
